Optimal Foraging: Simulation Studies of Diet Choice in a Stochastic Environment

چکیده

-Foraging models are a growing pan of the ethnobiological study of huntergatherers . Highly simplified for analytic reasons, the early "classical" versions of these models excluded consideration of several relevant factors. Among them is the possibilit y of maladaptive food shortages due to the effects of stochastic environmental fluctuations on food capture rates . To remedy this deficiency, the present simulation study develops a stochastic, risk-minimizing analog to the widely used but deterministic and ratemaximizing diet choice model. The results indicate that optimal efficiency-maximizing and risk-minimizing choices are quite similar. However, even with the optimal riskminimizing choice, the forager in a stochastic environment will experience large variations in food capture rate from one time interval to the next . This and other studies using and developing foraging theory hold the promise of a micro-ecological theory of huntergatherer economie s, past and present .

In recent years, significant research efforts have been devoted to the optimal planning of power systems. Substation Expansion Planning (SEP) as a sub-system of power system planning consists of finding the most economical solution with the optimal location and size of future substations and/or feeders to meet the future load demand. The large number of design variables and combination of discr...

Game-Theoretic Methods for Functional Response and Optimal Foraging Behavior

We develop a decision tree based game-theoretical approach for constructing functional responses in multi-prey/multi-patch environments and for finding the corresponding optimal foraging strategies. Decision trees provide a way to describe details of predator foraging behavior, based on the predator's sequence of choices at different decision points, that facilitates writing down the correspond...

Evolutionary stability of optimal foraging: partial preferences in the diet and patch models.

In this article the patch and diet choice models of the optimal foraging theory are reanalyzed with respect to evolutionary stability of the optimal foraging strategies. In their original setting these fundamental models consider a single consumer only and the resulting fitness functions are both frequency and density independent. Such fitness functions do not allow us to apply the classical ga...

Designing a new multi-objective fuzzy stochastic DEA model in a dynamic ‎environment to estimate efficiency of decision making units (Case Study: An Iranian Petroleum Company)

This ‎paper presents a new multi-objective fuzzy stochastic data envelopment analysis model          (MOFS-DEA) under mean chance constraints and common weights to estimate the efficiency of decision making units for future financial periods of them. In the initial MOFS-DEA ‏model, the outputs and inputs are ‎characterized by random triangular fuzzy variables with normal distribution, in which ...
